A Moment with "Dirty Steve" May 11, 2005

"Dirty Steve" Fuller grew up in the deep south, in the now bustling metropolis of Greenville, South Carolina. After getting his Bachelor's degree in Art Studio-Photography in 1996, he made his way up to Baltimore in early 1997 to work for a company called Games Workshop, the world's largest producer of tabletop miniature war games. Being a geek and loving to paint toy soldiers himself, Steve thought this was a marvelous step in the right direction. He got to use his degree AND the love of his hobby to make a living! But something was missing.

Since lots of beautiful women seemed to like the way Steve sang, the karaoke bug bit him while attending college at the University of SC. After graduating and moving to Maryland, there was little he knew about the music scene, but he wanted to be back on stage more than ever. Karaoke just wasn't enough anymore. He decided it was time to look for something more and began surfing the web and found the BaltimoreBands.com website. There he successfully found a few band mates to jam with. The most notable assembly came in 2003 with Josh Maerten, an acoustic guitarist from Perry Hall. Together Steve and Josh formed the Fell's Point favorite, Fat Johnny.

After a year of great gigs with Fat Johnny, Dirty still wanted more. He missed the excitement and energy of a full band, so he once again turned to BaltimoreBands.com to look for another project. He came upon Union-jack, a band who had "been to the top and is ready to get back". He put on his game face and went to audition. After two auditions and over a month of nail-biting, Dirty Steve was asked to join the ranks of Union-jack as their lead vocalist. Elated and overjoyed, he accepted. Since then the group has been furiously rehearsing new material in an effort to get back out onstage to jam with the old fans, drum up some new fans, and get "back on top".

Dirty Steve still holds his day job a photographer for Games Workshop in Glen Burnie, and his nickname comes from his coworkers. Ask him about it when you see him at a show. You might be surprised at the story....
